History and Events

Here's where the TDI Academy has been and where it's going.

  • September - November 2010 TDI staff will visit the University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas Southern University to discuss careers in insurance.
  • May 2010 Visit with the El Paso CPCU Chapter, the University of Texas at El Paso, and El Paso Community College to discuss development of insurance education programs.
  • April 2010 Presentations to business students at Texas Southern University and a visit with the Director of the Insurance & Risk Management Center at the University of Houston-Downtown’s College of Business.
  • Members of the TDI Excellence Program – an agency leadership program – visit an insurance class at Huston-Tillotson University taught by an insurance professional, using CPCU curriculum and materials.
  • Fall 2008 – Spring 2009 TDI develops and implements an internship program for college and graduate school students, aptly named the Honors Program. Students earn first-hand experience in the regulatory side of the insurance industry.
  • October 2008 Academic and insurance professionals met for the TDI Academy Insurance Forum to build a network of ideas and knowledge for creating additional insurance education and training programs throughout Texas.
  • Fall 2005 Huston-Tillotson University began offering Introduction to Risk Management and Insurance, taught by a TDI staff member. Additional insurance courses are planned for development.
